2010 Finalists
We are pleased to announce that we have shortlisted this years entries down to our 6 finalists. Read more about them below:
Name: Damien O Donnell
Location: Toomebridge, County Antrim
Idea: Damien has developed a new prefabricated wall panel system. This new method of construction combines the benefits of concrete and timber frame buildings resulting in a lower cost method of construction. The product has been thoroughly tested by Queens University and has proven to be extremely durable. As well as being low cost, some other benefits of this new system are that it is fire resistant and can be erected very quickly.
Name: Fergal O Kane
Location: Coleraine, County Derry/Londonderry
Idea: Fergal’s idea is a link box transporter for farmers. This new attachment for link boxes is multifunctional and can be used to transport sheep, feed, and fence posts. It also means ewes are easier to lamb due to the tilt of the link box. Fergal is a welder by trade and made the link box attachment/transporter for his dad to use on his farm, so he knows it works.
Name: Declan Campbell & Martin Conway
Location: Coalisland, County Tyrone
Idea: These business partners from Tyrone have designed a new type of roof – rack incorporating safety, time efficiency and security. This new roof rack will be for commercial van users. Declan has experience of using conventional roof racks and has first hand experience of their shortcomings and along with Martin believes they have a better solution to anything that is currently available.
Name: Michael Brady & Jonathan Scott
Location: Lisburn, County Antrim
Idea: Michael & Jonathan are looking to take the marquee market by storm with their new invention “Cocoon.” Cocoon is a new type of marquee that can be deployed without heavy lifting equipment or climbing. Cocoon can be ready to use in less than three hours resulting in significant time savings. Cocoon is an innovative departure from the traditional method of marquee construction as it is unfolded rather than constructed.
Name: Andrew Hassard
Location: Ballyclare, County Antrim
Idea: Andrew’s idea is a self compressing bin. The self compressing bin will mean that more waste can be stored in the same space as an equivalent non compressing bin. The self compressing bin can be designed into a number of bin types e.g. wheelie bin, household and industrial. Andrew believes this a great idea that really helps the environment.
Name: David Dicks
Location: Dunmurry, County Antrim
Idea: David has worked for past 6 years on developing his idea the “Aqua Farms Project”. This is a low cost hydroponic grow unit that is portable, efficient and reliable. David’s idea will allow crops to be grown in any environment and believes it is the future and has worldwide potential with possible market sectors including farmers, zoos, prisons and militaries. David believes his method of crop growing could be successfully used in third world countries and could help eliminate food shortages there.
